My colleague, with a wedding just around the corner, generously offered to treat me to lunch. They took me to Cheongiwatown (청기와타운) in Myeongdong, an absolute gem for Korean BBQ, specifically known for its delicious galbi. Thanks to their treat, I enjoyed a truly clean, convenient, and incredibly tasty lunch experience.
First Impressions: Cheongiwatown Euljiroipgu
From the moment we arrived, Cheongiwatown in Myeongdong (Euljiroipgu branch) impressed with its neat and inviting exterior. Since we had a reservation, our table was already perfectly set with all the basic side dishes and utensils. While waiting for our food, I took some time to browse through the menu, anticipating the feast to come.
The Star of the Show: Marinated Galbi
Soon enough, the star of our meal arrived: the marinated galbi (양념갈비). It looked absolutely pristine and appetizing, promising a fantastic flavor. Even better, the staff expertly cooked all the meat right at our table. This service made the dining experience incredibly comfortable and enjoyable, allowing us to simply relax and savor the perfectly grilled galbi. After finishing the main course, they thoughtfully brought out doenjang jjigae (soybean paste stew) and rice, providing a warm and satisfying conclusion to our meal.
Overall Verdict
My overall impression of Cheongiwatown was overwhelmingly positive. It was an experience that felt exceptionally clean, comfortable, and, most importantly, incredibly delicious. While it might be a bit pricey for an everyday lunch, I believe it’s an excellent restaurant for those special occasions when you want to treat someone or express gratitude. It’s the perfect spot to enjoy a high-quality Korean BBQ experience in a refined setting.
